Autonomous Cleaning Robot

An autonomous cleaning robot is a commercial floor-cleaning machine that scrubs, sweeps, mops and vacuums hard floors by itself, on a schedule. It maps the building, avoids people and obstacles, rides lifts between floors, and returns to a station that charges it, refills clean water and drains waste water. HKC matches the right model to your site, integrates it with your lifts, doors and facilities systems, and supports it locally across Hong Kong, mainland China and Singapore.

What is an autonomous cleaning robot?

It is a robot floor scrubber that cleans large commercial areas without an operator — you set the zones and the schedule once, and it repeats the work every shift.

Cleaning large floor areas by hand is repetitive, physically demanding and increasingly hard to staff. It is also the kind of work that is easy to measure and hard to keep consistent: the same corridor cleaned well on Monday and missed on Friday.

A cleaning robot takes over the routine passes — corridors, lobbies, concourses, aisles — and records exactly what it covered, when, and how well.

Your cleaning team still matters. The robot covers the large, repetitive areas, which frees people for detail cleaning, washrooms, spills and the work a machine cannot reach.

Because it runs unattended, cleaning frequency stops being limited by headcount. Areas that were cleaned once a day can be cleaned every shift, or overnight while the building is empty.

Challenges

Why sites move to robotic floor cleaning

The six problems facilities and operations teams raise most often, and what a robot changes about each.

Labour shortage

Cleaning roles are hard to fill and harder to keep. A robot covers the repetitive floor work so the team you have goes further.

01

Slip hazards

Wet floors left behind after mopping cause falls. Scrub-and-dry cleaning leaves the floor dry behind the machine.

04

Inconsistent quality

Manual results vary by person and shift. A robot follows the same route, pattern and settings every time.

02

Hygiene and infection control

High-traffic floors need frequent, repeatable cleaning — especially in hospitals and care homes — without adding staff contact.

05

No proof of cleaning

Paper checklists show that someone signed, not what was cleaned. The robot reports area covered, time and status for every task.

03

Cleaning around operations

Some areas can only be cleaned when they are empty. Scheduled night runs clean them without a night shift.

HOW

How an autonomous cleaning robot works

Four capabilities make a cleaning robot work unattended: it cleans in several modes, it knows where it is, it moves around the building on its own, and it looks after itself.

1.

Several cleaning modes in one machine

Scrubbing with water and detergent for marks and grease, sweeping for debris, dust-push mopping for fine dust, and vacuuming on quieter low-noise settings. Edge brushes reach along walls and skirting. The mode is set per zone, so the dining hall and the lobby are not cleaned the same way.

3.

Lifts, doors and multiple floors

Integrated with your lift and access-control systems, the robot calls a lift, travels to the next floor and passes controlled doors without a person escorting it. One robot can cover a multi-storey building on a single schedule.

2.

Mapping and obstacle avoidance

Lidar and cameras combine to map the building and keep the robot located within it. It detects people, trolleys, wheelchairs and furniture, stops for blind spots, and senses drops such as stairs and ramps — so it can run while a building is open, not only after hours.

4.

Self-service station

At the end of a task it returns to its workstation to charge, refill clean water and drain waste water automatically. Where plumbing changes are not practical, a mobile water tank can be used instead.

Benefits

Key Benefits

What changes on the floor once the robot is running.

Lower cleaning labour cost

The robot covers the large repetitive areas, so cleaning hours go to the work that needs a person.

Consistent, auditable results

Every run is the same, and every run is recorded — useful for contract cleaning, audits and hygiene standards.

Safer floors

Scrub-and-dry cleaning and quick spill response cut slip risk — important where elderly people, patients or the public walk.

WHERE

Where cleaning robots are used

Any site with large hard floors that need cleaning every day.

Elderly care homes

Frequent corridor and dining-room cleaning, quick response to spills, and low-noise modes that do not disturb residents — while easing pressure on care and cleaning staff.

Shopping malls & supermarkets

Concourses and aisles cleaned during trading hours, safely around shoppers and trolleys, with deeper runs overnight.

Offices & property

Lobbies, lift halls and corridors across several floors, cleaned on one schedule through lift integration.

Hospitals & clinics

Repeatable cleaning of wards, corridors and waiting areas around patients, with fewer staff contacts in infection-control zones.

Airports & transport hubs

Very large floor areas with constant footfall, where cleaning has to run around the clock.

Factories & warehouses

Wide aisles and production floors swept and scrubbed between shifts, without taking staff off the line.

Let's Talk

Tell us the task, not the robot

Describe the work you want automated — what moves, how often, how far, and how many people it takes today. That is enough for HKC to say which robot fits, whether the numbers work, and what a pilot would involve.
